This fresh and fun kitchen renovation suits the homeowner to a T !

This home’s original kitchen was a dark, tight, galley style space with a door at either end. We opened up the wall between the dining room and kitchen area, to create a peninsula with sink and dishwasher, breakfast bar and fill the space with light from the huge dining room window. To save on budget, the back door was left in it’s original location but a custom cabinet helped to fill a dead space created by the opening door. The loss of storage space caused by the removal of the wall was compensated for by installing base cabinets under the breakfast bar which face the dining room. A customized cabinet unit on the short wall houses the fridge, microwave and creates a handy counter space for small appliances. High gloss, flat panel cabinetry from a box store were vamped up with custom side panels painted in a great blue. Tin ceiling tiles were used to clad the back of the open shelving unit and the end of the peninsula. This added some texture and sparkle to the space. The rest of the finishes were kept neutral – white farmhouse sink, blonde butcher block countertops, white pendant lighting and white subway tile. This way, if the homeowner gets tired of the blue, it’s a simple paint out of the wood paneling.
